City & Guilds...
To future-proof its power requirements and ensure technology
remains consistent for students and tutors alike, learning
providers City & Guilds looked to ABS for expert guidance
and round-the-clock maintenance.
ABS has worked closely with the Facilities Department at
City & Guilds for a number of years. During this time,
IT has become a major tool for City & Guilds in enabling
exams and information to be made accessible via the Web.
Evaluating Power Requirements
In future-proofing power requirements to maintain and expand
its business, City & Guilds tasked ABS to evaluate its
power and air conditioning requirements over a five-year
period. The ABS assessment highlighted a need for City &
Guilds to install a fully automatic diesel generator to
counteract the threat of a mains power outage. The
Solution
Following further investigation, ABS advised City & Guilds
that a new uninterruptible power supply system with 30 minutes
power back up would need to be installed. The back up power
was recommended as the City & Guilds main servers were
not able to accept a break in power.
Now supporting all the essential City & Guilds services
throughout the building, the diesel generator ensures that
even in the event of a power outage a back up supply is
triggered in 15 seconds.
To cater for the additional IT equipment within the Computer
Room and equipment for future purchase, ABS has also installed
additional close control air conditioning units. Additional
IT Cabinet power supplies were also installed within the
false floor void for future utilisation.
Ongoing Maintenance
ABS provides a fully-managed preventative maintenance service
to City & Guilds, and monitors the installation 24 hours
a day, 365 days a year via City & Guilds' Building Management
System.
